There are three main types of back pain, acute back pain, recurrent back pain, and chronic back pain. Acute pain is when the pain is present uninterrupted for any timeframe up to three months. Recurrent back pain is when you might have pain, then it gets better, and then you have the same pain come back. Chronic back pain is when it stays longer than three months uninterrupted. We treat each category slightly different, but the real key is working with patients during the acute phase, which is when the back pain is just beginning and it's still in the first three months. During this acute phase of treatment, the more success we will have, the quicker results and the more complete the healing is going to be. So our key to back pain is to addressing it and healing it. In the first three months of any pain, and most specifically in the first 24 hours, now you know the moment of your back starts hurting you. This is very understandable because it's a scary thing to be hurt in your spine. All of the sudden, every little movement in your entire body can cause pain, and that is frightening. But when I reassure you that 99% of back pain is soft tissue and muscle strains, movement is actually the solution. The main solution to back pain are reducing your stress, improving your fitness level, and maintaining good posture. Reducing stress is huge. We have two different kinds of stress that we put on ourselves. The first is physical stress, which is the stress of the mechanisms from our back. The second is emotional stress, which also plays heavenly into back pain. The most important issue to address in regards to mechanical stress is typically needed for weight reduction. If we are carrying extra weight, we will feel it in our backs as well. We need to address proper ergonomics. When we say ergonomics, we not only mean posture, but we need proper lifting techniques. Emotional stress is also very important in our back health. Emotional stress creates a continual cycle of back pain as well. Nutritional health is very important to reduce any symptoms of the pain in the back. The less toxins we have in our body, the healthier our backs are gonna be. Improve your fitness, improve your core muscle strength, your flexibility of your legs, your hips, your spine. It's the second most important solution to back pain. The third solution is to maintain good posture.
